Personal Development Case Study
Space New Living - a Housing Association based in Salford - asked us to
come in and talk with their front-of-office staff to design a programme
to meet their needs. We developed a programme with two elements – a protocol
to be followed when dealing with visitors and/or incoming telephone calls;
and personal development training in dealing with difficult clients. The
protocol and training resulted in more effective service to clients and
a more confident front-office team. We worked with the Burnley-based Bangladeshi
Welfare Association on a two-day programme to improve individual member
effectiveness and to help integrate the whole organisation. The programme
covered Board member and appointed officer roles and responsibilities, putting
the Constitution into practice and ways to involve the members more closely.
One outcome was an all-party agreement to mount a major initiative to clean
up the back streets in the locality and to engage residents in that action.
RCT worked with Inland Revenue staff based at Manchester to deliver a series
of 'Time and Stress Management' programmes for groups of front-line staff
dealing with callers who have tax concerns. Taking the groups through an
examination of the issues that lose time and create stress, we helped individuals
to plan use of their time better and to plan how to tackle those stresses
which could be realistically reduced or removed. The delegates were able
to move on from those areas which we had helped them to tackle and had the
confidence to 'spread it wider' and deal with other areas of concern themselves.
